RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course Overview
This RYA Powerboat Level 2 course provides the skills and background knowledge needed by any competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.
The aims of this course are to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low-speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. This certificate can be used to work as a professional powerboat skipper.
This RYA Powerboat Level 2 course takes place over the course of two days and is provided in partnership with Southampton Water Sports Activity Centre.
Powerboat Level 2 Course Prerequisites
The only prerequisites for this course are as follows:
The applicant must be aged 12 years or older. Should the applicant be under 16 course attendance requires the supervision of a responsible adult. Certificates for children aged between 12 and 16 will be endorsed to show that they must use PWs only under the supervision of a responsible adult.
This course may be preceded by The RYA Powerboat Course Level 1.
We also request that you bring a passport size photo of yourself on the first day.
Powerboat Level 2 Course Content
As mentioned in the course overview, this course will be focusing on:
- Low-speed close quarters handling
- Launching and recovery
- Boat handling
- Securing to a buoy
- Anchoring
- Leaving and coming alongside man overboard recovery
- An introduction to driving at planning speed
- Collision regulations
A passport size photo will be required to issue your certificate. Your ability will be continually monitored to ensure you achieve the required standard to achieve your certificate. There is no final assessment or exam. It is the role of your instructor to ensure you meet the requirements of the course syllabus.
It is advised to pack your own lunch, as food is not provided or sold on site.
