RYA Jet Ski Instructor Course Overview
The RYA Jet Ski Instructor Course is a three day course that builds upon existing jet ski experience and aims to teach the necessary skills and techniques to develop learners into fully competent jet ski instructors.
Personal Watercraft (PW) Instructors are experienced personal watercraft drivers that have been trained and assessed to run the following RYA Courses:
- The Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course
- The Introduction to Personal Watercraft Safety course (which is for guests on Superyacht charter holidays and ski riders alike).
This three day course is run by an RYA Personal Watercraft Trainer and assessed by an independent Trainer with a moderation on the third day.
Candidates that are already qualified as an RYA Powerboat Instructor may attend a one day conversion course, rather than the full three day course.

RYA Jet Ski Instructor Course Prerequisites
Applicants must be aged 16 or above and hold valid first aid qualifications recognised by the RYA. We recommended the RYA First Aid, or STCW Medical First aid qualifications. RYA membership is also a requirement.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must have at least two year's experience of driving personal watercraft before joining this course.
RYA Jet Ski Instructor Course Content
Throughout the duration of this course, you'll be taught about the following:
- Teaching models for instructing and coaching.
- Practical driving skills.
- How to structure session and delivery an effective safety brief.
- Course planning and working within at an RYA centre.
- Feedback skills.
- Delivering theory sessions.
- How to safely introduce novices to jet skiing for the first time.
- How to safely manage multiple skills at a time.
- The structure of the RYA scheme and syllabus.
- How to assess a student's ability.
- Working at an RYA training centre and the standards they expect.
